Buying tickets for Miramare Castle should be simple, but somehow I still second-guessed myself while doing it. Maybe it’s the sea breeze. Maybe it’s just the weight of being somewhere that actually matters.
Choose your tickets
You can book online or show up at the gate—both work fine. I’d recommend checking what time you’re going, though. Mornings get packed. We went around 3 p.m. and barely waited.
Entry runs about €12. It’s cheaper if you’re under 25 or a student. First Sunday of the month is free, which sounds amazing until you realize half of Trieste had the same idea. We didn’t do that.
Your ticket gets you into the castle and the park. They feel like completely different places. Upstairs it’s all marble and your voice echoes back at you. Outside it’s just quiet and green. Honestly, the park might be better than the castle itself.
Go Late
The real move? Show up around 5 p.m. The light changes everything at that hour—suddenly everything looks gold. We sat on the steps for like 20 minutes just watching it happen. That’s when I forgot I’d paid anything at all. That’s when it felt worth it.
