If you’re in Trieste and want to see Miramare Castle, here’s what actually works (you can click on this link to the Google Maps).
| Method | Duration | Cost | How To Do It | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Train | ~9 min | ~€1.70 | Trieste Centrale → Miramare | Short walk through park, fast and chill |
| Bus | 20–40 min | ~€2–€3 | Bus 6 or 36 from center | Scenic, sometimes crowded, walk a bit from stop |
| Car | ~10 min | ~€6–€9 | Drive along Viale Miramare | Parking nearby, summer can be busy |
| Ferry | ~50 min | ~€4 | Summer only, from Molo Bersaglieri | Gorgeous views, slow but romantic |
| Taxi | ~10 min | €20+ | Direct door-to-door | Fastest, easy, costs more |
By Train
Go to Trieste Centrale. From there, catch a regional train to Miramare station — takes about 9 minutes if you’re lucky with the schedule. When you get off, walk down via Beirut through the park to the entrance. That’s roughly 150 meters. Tickets cost €1–3 per ride.
By Bus
Lines 6 or 36 go toward Miramare-Grignano. You’ll need to walk from the stop to the castle. Depending which stop you pick, that’s anywhere from 700 to 800 meters, maybe more. Costs less than €2, though in summer the buses get packed and slow.
On Foot
It’s doable if you start from the Barcola area on the coast, but don’t underestimate it — around 6–7 km depending where you begin. Bring water. The coast is nice but it’s still a long walk.
By Car or Taxi
Takes 10–15 minutes from central Trieste, about 8–9 km. Parking exists near the castle but fills up fast on weekends and hot days. If you want to skip the hassle, a taxi works.
By Boat
Summer only. There’s a boat service from the port that goes to the bay. It’s slower and more expensive, but nicer if you don’t mind paying for it.
What Works Best
Train is your best bet. It’s fast and reliable. Take it mid-morning when there are fewer people around. Spend time in the park first — that way your first real look at the castle comes from outside.
On the way back, you could try the bus to mix it up, or walk along the coast if you have time.
Things to Know
Check schedules before you go, especially off-season. If it’s hot and busy, train beats waiting for a bus. Bring decent shoes for the park paths — there are steps and uneven ground.
